Pianist Vedrana Subotić made her debut at age nine on national television in the former Yugoslavia, as part of a series on emerging prodigies, and at fifteen was admitted to the University of Belgrade Music Academy, one of the youngest candidates ever accepted. Born in Kotor, Montenegro, and raised in Serbia, she won the former Yugoslavia’s national piano competition at nineteen before moving to the United States to study with Ralph Votapek, Gold Medalist of the first Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and later with Menahem Pressler, founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio.
A Steinway Artist, she has appeared in hundreds of concerts across North and South America, Europe, and Asia, performing more than five hundred works in the solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire, in venues including the Bolshoi Theater’s Beethoven Hall in Moscow, Chicago Symphony Hall, and the Purcell Room at London’s Southbank Centre. Her 2024 album Chiaroscuro (Blue Griffin) drew acclaim from Textura, EarRelevant, the American Record Guide, and MusicWeb International, the last calling her Liszt B-minor Sonata “a powerhouse performance that grips the listener and ends in awe.”

Vedrana Subotić has appeared as a concerto soloist in works including Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto, Beethoven’s Fifth Concerto, both Chopin concertos, and Liszt’s First, among others, working under conductors including Keith Lockhart, Anton Nanut, Barlow Bradford, Ivo Drazinic,Timothy Muffitt, and Robert Baldwin. In 2014, she began a multi-year project encompassing the complete solo sonatas, duo sonatas, and piano trios of Beethoven, presented in performances, lectures, and masterclasses at venues including InterHarmony in Italy, the World Piano Conference in Serbia, Sichuan Conservatory in China, and festivals in Prague and Santiago. An advocate for contemporary music, she commissions and premieres new works regularly, and has recorded for Blue Griffin, Sony, and Centaur.
A particular focus of her current work is the underrecorded piano music of the Balkans - a tradition to which she has a deep personal connection, and which MusicWeb International has recognized her as “a powerful advocate of her homeland’s folk culture.
